Vacant Lot Becomes Field of Dreams
In 1995, in an effort to beautify one small part of King Edward Avenue, a vacant lot was turned into a field of dreams. Angie Todesco, president of the King Edward Avenue Task Force at the time, worked with a number of community groups to create a community garden at the northwest corner of King Edward Avenue and Clarence Street. After finding old chinaware, possibly from the previous residents homes that once stood on the location, Angie's group christened the lot the Blue China Garden. The lot was later developed into a private affordable housing complex by Liz MacKenzie, who later became a member of the Task Force. This field of dreams became a chance for people to afford their own homes.
