Intensity / Congestion
Congestion is a problem on King Edward Avenue. More traffic than lanes are trying to use the avenue during a few hours in the mornings and afternoons. However, the Task Force supports the philosophy that traffic has a way of naturally adjusting to the network available. While managing traffic is important, accommodating traffic at the cost of all other quality of life factors is unacceptable. The Task Force believes that a better balance needs to be found between the needs of commuters and the needs of the community in terms of a livable street. To deal with congestion, the Task Force supports improved transit and cycling options, responsible intensification of development downtown, and the exploration of other forward-looking solutions, such as congestion pricing.
