Lane Reductions Study
Following the construction of the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge in 1965, King Edward Avenue was widened from 4 to 6 lanes with as many as 9 lanes at one intersection. Since the 1980's, there have been calls to reduce the lanes on King Edward Avenue to provide a more fair balance between commuter needs and quality of life concerns in the community. Between 2007-2011, a study was undertaken to determine if the avenue could be permanently reduced to four lanes and the results came back in favour of four lanes.
